In 2012, a committee of volunteers, headed up by Wil & Miranda Hornett, started an event called Fort in the Forties. The event took place at New Tavern Fort, Gravesend and aimed to generate much needed funds for restoration work on the guns and displays within the Fort and Cold War Bunker.
The event started as a one day show on a donation on entry basis, offering visitors a range of entertainment, stalls, vehicles and living history displays. In subsequent years, the event has grown and evolved, and now aims to use funds raised to support community and heritage projects.
The group "Wartime Relived" was established in 2018 and the show changed its name for the 2019 event to "Hope & Glory." Organisers continue to pride themselves on running a friendly and welcoming show. One visitor described it as "like getting a big 1940's hug."
Wartime Relived members are involved in other events throughout the year, either as participants, or in an organisational capacity. Gravesham Council work in collaboration with Wartime Relived on some of these events and their contributions and support are highly valued by the team.
We hope to welcome you to one of our future fundraising or educational events.
